Main missions

We are looking for a dedicated project engineer to manage the scheduling, planning, forecasting, resourcing, and technical activities for equipment related projects for our Anticorrosion equipment business located in Salem Virginia, with an emphasis on our Systems business.
The Project Engineer will be responsible for managing multiple equipment projects ranging from $50K to $10M in value. Projects will be for individual pieces of equipment (heat exchangers, columns, strippers, etc.) as well as systems consisting of multiple pieces of equipment, interconnecting piping, control hardware, and instrumentation. 
To be a successful project engineer, you should have the ability to work with multiple discipline projects and demonstrate excellent project management and supervision skills. You should also have excellent organizational, time management, leadership, and decision-making skills.

Main duties

Project Engineer Responsibilities:
•    Managing, scheduling, coordinating, and monitoring of assigned equipment and systems projects.
•    
•    Ensure specifications for the projects are well understood and agreed upon by the equipment owner, the client’s representative (such as an engineering company) if involved, and by Mersen.
•    Manage the customer order contractual requirements of projects assigned, including ensuring that all requirements are fulfilled, including technical documents and intermediate as well as final deliverables.
•    Participate and lead technical discussions with customers and sub-contractors. Work with internal and external engineering resources to ensure that all documents/drawings for the project are completed on time. Knowledge of skid packages is preferred.
•    Follow up with suppliers to ensure timely delivery of components for the equipment or system..
•    Coordinating with the other project participants and collaborating with engineers to create more efficient project methods and to maintain the project's profitability.
•    Responsible for project cost management and monthly reporting of actual vs estimated project costs. Report deviations.
•    Reviewing the engineering tasks and initiating the necessary corrective actions.
•    Working with QC/QA department to ensure quality of products produced is as per specifications and inspections/testing is performed in accordance to inspection protocol established with client..
•    Identifying bottlenecks during fabrication/construction and initiating the necessary corrective actions, or developing recovery plans when an issue can’t be avoided.
•    Provide technical support to system (skid) fabricator.
•    Ensure the project's compliance with the applicable codes, practices, policies, performance standards, and specifications.
•    Coordinate shipping and delivery of equipment to customer site.
•    Follow project through commissioning of equipment. Work with Service center for startup assistance.
•    Manage customer claims on assigned projects.

Project Engineer Requirements:
•    A Bachelor's degree in mechanical or chemical engineering or a related field. 
•    Knowledge of industrial structural and piping design is preferred.
•    2 or more years' field and project planning experience.
•    Good understanding of general accounting principles and how they apply to company financial performance.
•    Ability to learn about and become proficient in negotiating contracts, including awareness of key legal principles such as protection of proprietary information, appropriate warranty responsibilities, and risk management.
•    Excellent computer literacy and knowledge of design and visualization software.
•    Regular travel, including extended travel at times.
•    The ability to work with multiple discipline projects.
•    Excellent project management and supervision skills.
•    Excellent organizational, time management, leadership, and decision-making skills.
•    Strong written and verbal communication skills, and takes the initiative to communicate internally and externally to keep key parties and stake holders informed
•    Good knowledge of applicable codes (B31.3, AISC, ASME), policies, standards, and best practices.
•    Ability to use specialized software for collaboration and time management, including spreadsheets.
•    Strong skills using Microsoft project and excel preferred. 
•    This job requires frequent travel to customer/supplier locations with short notice.
