Main missions
Mersen SPM Rochester is the design center for both Laminated Busbars and electrical assemblies for North America for various high-power applications in Power Electronics, Communications and more. A Laminated busbar is an engineering component consisting of layers of conductors and insulation to provide low inductance. The electrical assemblies we are currently developing are called Power Stacks. The power electronic modules are packaged with Mersen components that is designed with the customer for their power conversion process.
The Engineering team in Mersen Rochester is responsible for the technical design of our products by working with our customers and the Manufacturing team. Each design is customized to work to fit in the customer’s project. You will learn many different manufacturing methods as you work on different projects. The position will work an experienced Engineering team in developing new and review current custom solutions. There are additional side projects that you will be involved with the team working new ideas for new manufacturing processes and cost reduction.
Main duties
- Work with other Engineers to design and review customer projects
- Interface with Customer, Mersen Sales, Engineering, Manufacturing Departments during technical discussions.
- Interface with Suppliers and Purchasing over designs and costs
- Design fixtures to support different assembly techniques
- Plan and create multi-level bill of materials and work instructions based on the estimates and the processes involved
- Support new products development from design to manufacturing
- Develop test fixtures and test electronic assemblies
Requested Knowledge, Compentencies and Abilities:
- Preference for candidates working on their Mechanical Engineering Technology or Mechatronics Degree
- Experience in working with CAD. Inventor is preferred.
- Understanding of drafting standards, geometric tolerances, and interpretations to various standards
- Proficient in use of hand tools; torque wrenches, screwdrivers, etc.
- Excel capable
Work Environment
This job operates in a production office environment. The employee is occasionally exposed to shop elements such as noise, dust, fumes and odors. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines.

Compensation Data
Salary Range: $70,000.00 - $80,000.00 annualy
