MISSION

The Test Lab Manager is responsible for operating and maintaining the Low Power and High-Power Test Labs for all product development efforts, participates in follow-up testing, performs UL and CSA Certification, and Customer Test Programs.

CONTEXT OF POSITION AND MAJOR CHALLENGES:

  • Conduct High Fault Current, Time-Current, and Cycling Testing in accordance with Test Standard Specs
  • Generate and control test lab schedule, and distribute to necessary stake holders
  • Understand, operate and maintain Control Circuitry, Data Acquisition Systems, and Power Generation Equipment
  • Able to specify and install Data Acquisition systems
  • Evaluate Test Data and Test Performances to support Design Engineers Theories
  • Interpret Listing Services Standards in conjunction with the proper Product Classification
  • Maintain all the Lab’s Power Generation and associated Test Equipment
  • Maintain all associated Test and Calibrations Files
  • Recommend upgrades to all and any equipment
  • Assist on Team Projects as required
  • Perform weekly maintenance procedures and record results in proper logs
  • Travel to Test Facilities for Product Development and Certification Test Programs as required
  • Maintain the electrical calibration schedule
  • Develop the monthly test lab notes for the Staff meeting
  • Perform monthly audit product testing as required
  • Keep the lab safe and clean
  • Oversee shipping and receiving
  • Hire and monitor outside contractors for facility electrical, plumbing, and construction projects
  • Address safety concerns throughout the facility
  • Communicate building issues with the Property Manager

MAIN ACCOUNTABILITIES:

  • To ensure that the Operating Expense Budget, Capital Expenditures, are within the plan.
  • To ensure that the technicians meet their deliverables.
  • To maintain and operate the test labs at the highest level of safety and cleanness.
  • To contribute to the support of the R&D’s teams to meet their goals.
  • To contribute to the customers’ satisfaction by meeting their deadlines.
  • Partner and understand Mersen’s global R&D needs to maintain, upgrade capabilities and recommend capital improvements to support Global business and technology strategies.   
  • Continuously improve performance for personnel, lab equipment and customers.
  • Partner to advance and accelerate R&D projects by ensuring timely scheduling, maintain capacity, prepare prompt test reports, perform analysis and where appropriate make recommendations
  • Oversee changes, additions, and repairs to the building infrastructure
  • Supervise shipping and receiving activities
  • Address unsafe conditions found throughout the facility

Requirements:

  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Electrical Engineering.  5 plus years’ experience preferred.
  • Prior experience managing people (up to 2 individuals)
  • Must be capable of communicating with test lab personnel, internal engineers, and customers.
  • Working experience with PC operating platforms (DOS, Windows, Excel, etc.).
  • Experience associated with Transformer Theory, Solid State Components, Electromagnetic Fields, and Power Supply Design.
  • Experience in power electronics and power generation systems
  • Hands-on individual.
  • Familiar and able to work with standards (UL, CSA, IEC, IEEE., ANSI, NEC, etc.)
  • Able to work in high voltage and high current environments
  • Ability to understand and troubleshoot Control Systems to the Component Level.
  • Knowledge of Data Acquisition Systems and IEEE Interface Systems.
  • Three to five years’ experience with PC operation and programming.
  • Experience in electromagnetic fields and power generation systems.
  • Physical requirements, climbing ladders, lifting to 25 pounds, kneeling, reaching overhead, work with power tools.
  • Must know how to operate hand tools and power tools safely
  • Ability to work onsite, 5 days in Newburyport, MA Office

 

 

The expected salary for this position is between $90,000 and $120,000 and will be eligible for incentive pay.  This range represents a good faith estimate for the position and actual compensation will be based on numerous factors including knowledge, locations, skills, training, and experience.
