Product Application Engineer - Semiconductor Fuses and DC Protection

1. MISSION

Deliver best-in-class application engineering support that helps customers design safe, reliable, and efficient DC power systems using Mersen's short circuit semiconductor fuse and DC protection solutions. Through technical expertise, fuse selectivity, customer collaboration, and application knowledge, the Product Applications Engineer drives customer success, supports profitable business growth, and strengthens Mersen's position as a trusted partner in circuit protection.

2. POSITION SUMMARY

The Product Applications Engineer provides technical expertise and application support for Mersen's portfolio of semiconductor fuses and DC protection solutions. Serving as the technical liaison between customers, sales, product management, and engineering, this role supports customer application design by analyzing application requirements, selecting and modeling overcurrent protection solutions, performing application and coordination studies, and developing technical documentation and application databases. The Product Applications Engineer also provides product training and technical support to customers, distributors, and the sales organization across key markets including Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS), EV charging, renewable energy, industrial power electronics, and data centers.

This position is ideal for an engineer with 3–5 years of experience in electrical engineering or power electronics who is looking to develop expertise in DC circuit protection and customer-focused application engineering. The role includes approximately 20–30% domestic and international travel to support customers, training, and business development activities.

3. RESPONSABILITIES

Application Engineering & Technical Support

• Serve as the technical expert for Mersen's semiconductor fuse and DC protection product portfolio.
• Analyze customer electrical requirements and recommend appropriate overcurrent protection solutions.
• Review electrical schematics, one-line diagrams, and system architectures to ensure proper application of circuit protection products.
• Perform fuse selection, coordination, and selectivity studies for AC and DC power systems.
• Support customers with troubleshooting applications, root cause analysis, and product recommendations.

Customer & Sales Support

• Partner with Sales Managers to provide technical support throughout the sales process.
• Participate in customer meetings, technical presentations, and design reviews.
• Respond to technical inquiries and provide timely application recommendations.
• Support strategic customer opportunities from concept through implementation.

Technical Documentation & Training

• Develop application notes, technical guides, selection tools, and engineering documentation.
• Maintain application databases, technical reference materials, and competitive information.
• Deliver technical training for customers, distributors, and internal sales teams.
• Assist in creating technical content for webinars, seminars, and marketing initiatives.

Product & Market Development

• Collaborate with Product Management to identify market trends and emerging customer requirements.
• Capture and communicate Voice of Customer (VOC) feedback to support new product development and continuous improvement.
• Assist with competitive product evaluations and benchmarking.
• Support new product introductions through application validation and customer engagement.

Cross-Functional Collaboration

• Work closely with Engineering, Product Management, Marketing, and Quality to resolve technical issues and improve customer satisfaction.
• Partner with our international R&D team for additional training, support and collaboration on new applications.

4. QUALIFICATIONS

Education

• Bachelor of Science Degree in Electrical Engineering or a related engineering discipline.

Skills & Competencies

• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
• Understanding of electrical power systems, power electronics, or industrial electrical equipment.
• Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics and one-line diagrams.
• Knowledge of circuit protection principles, overcurrent protection, and coordination concepts.
• Familiarity with electrical testing, troubleshooting, and technical problem solving.
• Experience with modeling or simulation software is considered a plus.

The expected salary for this position is between $70,000 and $90,000 and will be eligible for incentive pay.  This range represents a good faith estimate for the position and actual compensation will be based on numerous factors including knowledge, locations, skills, training, and experience.
