Main missions

  • Key Responsibilities
    •    Set up and operate manual machine tools including lathes, mills, horizontal boring mills, and vertical turret lathes.
    •    Interpret technical drawings, blueprints, and job specifications to ensure parts meet design and dimensional standards.
    •    Machine and rework graphite and other corrosion-resistant materials with appropriate speeds, feeds, and tooling.
    •    Conduct in-process and final inspections using micrometers, calipers, and other measuring tools.
    •    Maintain machinery, tools, and work areas to ensure safe, efficient operation and product quality.
    •    Perform quality checks and document results to meet internal and customer specifications.
    •    Support a clean and safe shop environment in compliance with Mersen’s EH&S procedures.
     

Main duties

 

Experience & Skills
•    Minimum 2 years of manual machining experience is required.
•    Strong knowledge of cutting tools, feeds, speeds, and material characteristics—especially graphite.
•    Ability to read and interpret blueprints and use precision measurement instruments.
•    Comfortable working independently with limited supervision.
•    Capable of standing for long periods and frequently lifting up to 35 lbs.
•    Experience working in a job-shop or production environment is preferred.

Physical Demands
•    Stand, walk, and reach for extended periods while operating machines.
•    Frequent lifting, carrying, and handling of parts up to 35 lbs.
•    Use of hands and arms in repetitive motion for machining tasks.
•    Must be able to wear required personal protective equipment, including respirators if necessary.

Work Environment
•    Industrial machining shop with exposure to:
•    - Graphite dust and airborne particles
•    - Moderate to high noise levels
•    - Heat from machines and summer conditions
•    Fast-paced, team-oriented setting focused on precision and safety.
•    Overtime and weekend work may be required to meet customer delivery schedules.

•    Reliable transportation to the Gonzales facility.
•    Strong focus on safety, quality, and housekeeping.
•    Must be able to pass pre-employment and random drug testing.
•    Punctuality, attention to detail, and a professional attitude are critical.
•    Willingness to work flexible hours, including overtime and weekends, as needed.
